Grow-Your-Own Food For Thought

Organic strawberries from the garden is always a treasure.

Food for thought. After more than 20 years of growing our own organic foods year-round in the Pacific Northwest, we were recently asked what it is about gardening that we like - isn't it a lot of work everyday of the year? It took us by surprise as gardening has become second nature to us that we never think about it. When we are away from our garden, we feel anxious about the foods we'd have to buy. If anything, gardening makes us feel good and secure about what we put on the table. We don't have to wash our veggies or fruits while worrying about residues of a chemical or bacterial contamination. And gardening makes the seasons real to us like nothing else can. We can feel the ebbs and flows of each season - and we eat our organic produce with such joy - it's a miracle that you put seeds in the ground of compost and the seeds grow into beautiful fruits and vegetables that feed us. No slaughtering needed. We love the sounds insects and birds make I our garden as they go about their business. We love the smell of flowers and fruits in the air. We love harvesting then going a few steps to the kitchen to eat. We love everything about gardening, even on rainy and windy days. ‪#‎food‬ ‪#‎foods‬ ‪#‎foodforthought‬ ‪#‎foodsecurity‬ ‪#‎organic‬ ‪#‎vegan‬ ‪#‎raw‬ ‪#‎rawfood‬ ‪#‎rawfoods‬ ‪#‎garden‬ ‪#‎organicgardening‬ ‪#‎organicgarden‬ ‪#‎homestead‬ ‪#‎homesteading‬ ‪#‎reflections‬ ‪#‎meditation‬ ‪#‎mindfulness‬ ‪#‎growyourown‬ ‪#‎growfood‬ ‪#‎growfoodnotlawn‬ ‪#‎zeromile‬ ‪#‎selfsufficiency‬ ‪#‎rawganique‬
