Why is trophy hunting even legal and its disastrous consequences on wildlife

July 29, 2015

July 30 2015 Update: Walter Palmer is asked by the Obama Administration to call them. Plus Palmer has had to close down his dental practice. And it surfaces that Donald Trump's 2 sons have been trophy hunters, too, of wild exotic animals. :(

Worth a read: The Time's dissection of the reality of trophy hunting. Cecil's fate has made him the face of a much-needed debate about trophy hunting - killing wild animals for sport.

Each year, 9,000 trophy hunters head to South Africa alone to kill trophy animals such as elephants, leopards, buffalos, and lions. Who did governments think give them the right to hand out licenses to kill these innocent animals for sport??

THE KILLERS OF INNOCENT ANIMALS CALL THEMSELVES "conservationists". The killing of wild animals for sport is never acceptable! In the well-publicized case of Cecil the Lion, being collared and protected wasn't enough to protect him. He was lured out of his protected area and shot, taking 40 hours to finally be killed, beheaded, and skinned. And Walter Palmer, the dentist who illegally poached Cecil, has not been charged with any crime. This spin that they are conservationists may sound good to trophy hunters, but the reality is governments have no right to hand out killing licenses to wild animals (which don't belong to them or anyone else). And the reality is that even so-called protected are not safe from poachers.

"Although the practice may sound cruel, hunters say their efforts actually support conservation through large fees paid to governments to engage in the hunt. “Hunters are the true conservationists,” said Dave Duncan, an adviser and coordinator for hunting safaris. “If it weren’t for hunters, there probably wouldn’t be any animals left in the United States.”"
